A global management consulting firm identified India as a top retail destination. Q: Which global management consulting firm identified India as the 'second most attractive retail destination' of the 30 emergent markets?
Correct answer: A — A. T. Kearney
A. T. Kearney, a global management consulting firm, specifically identified India as the 'second most attractive retail destination' of the 30 emergent markets as the retail banking growth story unfolds.
Group Question: A major public sector bank is restructuring its retail operations to compete with private banks. It currently segregates functions into departments like accounting, marketing, and planning. Q: What is the current business model adopted by this Public Sector Bank?
Correct answer: C — Departmental Approach
The Departmental Approach segregates the functions of the organization into departments such as accounting, marketing, and planning. This specialized functional approach is generally adopted by Public Sector Banks in India.
Group Question: The Indian retail banking sector is witnessing explosive growth due to changing consumer demographics. A global management consulting firm identified India as a top retail destination. Q: According to demographic data driving this growth, what proportion of India's population is below 35 years of age?
Correct answer: C — 70%
India is one of the countries having the highest proportion (70%) of the population below 35 years of age. This young demographic wields increasing purchasing power and drives the retail consumer boom.
Group Question: A major public sector bank is restructuring its retail operations to compete with private banks. It currently segregates functions into departments like accounting, marketing, and planning. Q: The bank's management decides to transition to an SBU approach. What does SBU stand for in this context?
Correct answer: B — Strategic Business Unit
SBU stands for Strategic Business Unit. It aims at dividing the business into autonomous divisions defined as profit centers focusing on specific product offerings and market segments.
Group Question: The Indian retail banking sector is witnessing explosive growth due to changing consumer demographics. A global management consulting firm identified India as a top retail destination. Q: Which of the following factors contribute to the growth of the retail banking segment? (I) Rise of young Indian professionals (II) Increasing purchasing power of middle-class people (III) High interest rates on retail loans (IV) Financial market reforms.
Correct answer: B — (I), (II), and (IV) only
The growth of retail banking is driven by the rise of young professionals, increasing purchasing power, and financial market reforms. A decline in interest rates, not high interest rates, generates the demand for retail credit.
Group Question: A major public sector bank is restructuring its retail operations to compete with private banks. It currently segregates functions into departments like accounting, marketing, and planning. Q: Which of the following are characteristics of the new SBU approach the bank is adopting? (I) Autonomous divisions (II) Defined as profit centers (III) Highly integrated with all other corporate businesses to reduce risk (IV) Uses Management by Objectives (MBO).
Correct answer: A — (I), (II), and (IV) only
SBUs are autonomous divisions and profit centers that use Management by Objectives (MBO). The Integrated Approach (combining all aspects to reduce risk through scale) is typically used by smaller businesses, not as part of the SBU framework.
Which of the following describes the stage where a bank provides standardized banking products and services to build a sufficiently broad customer base?
Correct answer: C — Mass retail banking
Mass retail banking is the stage in which the bank provides standardized banking products and services to common masses to build a broad customer base that serves as a stable source of funding.
Which business approach combines all socio-economic aspects to tackle problems cohesively, usually adopted by smaller businesses to reduce risk and increase profitability through scale?
Correct answer: C — Integrated Approach
The Integrated Approach is usually adopted by smaller businesses. It adopts a cohesive approach having a unified business to reduce risk and increase profitability through overall scale rather than separate entities.
Which of the following is NOT considered a constraint in retail banking?
Correct answer: C — Attractive and wide interest spreads
Attractive and wide interest spreads are a major advantage of retail banking, not a constraint. Constraints include managing large volumes of clients, high costs of branch network maintenance, and higher delinquencies in unsecured loans.
Identify the incorrect statement regarding the business model of Foreign Banks in retail banking.
Correct answer: A — Foreign banks generally structure their business based heavily on market positioning objectives rather than pure profit.
Foreign banks generally do not go by positioning objectives but purely on business and profit targets. If the numbers are not met, they ruthlessly exit the market segment.
According to the performance of different segments from 2019 to 2021, which component constitutes more than 52% of the total retail loan portfolio of banks?
Correct answer: D — Housing Loans
The housing loan component constitutes more than 52% of the total retail portfolio of banks and registered an increase of 29.68% from 2019 to 2021.
In the context of the SBU approach, what does the 'knockdown module' concept under Management by Objectives (MBO) imply?
Correct answer: B — A specific poorly performing modular strategy or business unit can be restructured or discontinued without affecting the whole bank.
Under MBO, the business model is dealt with as a modular strategy. If retail plans do not translate into targeted objectives, there is a provision to knockdown (restructure or exit) that specific module.
Our mock tests mirror the pattern below so that your practice score is a fair predictor of your real score. IIBF revises the syllabus and pass criteria from time to time, so treat this as a working summary and confirm the current rules on the official IIBF website before your exam.

Most candidates fail JAIIB not because the syllabus is hard but because they read passively and never test recall under time pressure. The fastest correction is to reverse the order: attempt the chapter test first, score badly, and then read the chapter. You will remember far more, because you now know exactly what you did not know.
Work through one module at a time using the accordion above. Each chapter test is short enough to finish in a break between shifts. When you get a question wrong, do not simply note the right answer — read the explanation and write one line in your own words about why your choice was wrong. That one line is what survives to exam day.
In the last two weeks, switch to full-length timed papers. Sit for the whole 120 minutes without pausing, keep your phone out of reach, and do not check answers until you submit. The goal at that stage is not knowledge, it is stamina and pacing: roughly one question per minute with twenty minutes left over for the numerical questions in AFM.
A practical target is 65 per cent or better on every chapter test before you attempt a full paper, and a consistent 60 per cent on full papers before exam day. That margin absorbs the difficulty gap between practice questions and the real IIBF paper.

Each JAIIB paper carries 100 marks and is normally set as 100 objective questions to be answered in 120 minutes. Some papers include case-study and numerical questions that carry more than one mark, so the question count can be slightly under 100. Always confirm the current pattern on the official IIBF website before your exam.
A candidate must score a minimum of 45 out of 100 in each paper, with an aggregate of 50 per cent across all papers taken in a single attempt. If you score 50 or more in an individual paper but fail the aggregate, that paper is normally credited and carried forward. Verify the current rule with IIBF, as pass criteria have been revised in the past.
No. IIBF does not apply negative marking in JAIIB, so you should attempt every question rather than leaving blanks. Our mock tests follow the same rule so your practice score reflects your real score.
Work chapter by chapter first, then move to full-length papers. A realistic target is one chapter test a day for six weeks, then one full-length timed paper every second day in the final fortnight. Reviewing every wrong answer matters more than the number of tests.
